{"id":124,"date":"2022-02-05T23:23:34","date_gmt":"2022-02-05T23:23:34","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/swhchs.org\/?page_id=124"},"modified":"2023-11-09T06:12:08","modified_gmt":"2023-11-09T13:12:08","slug":"history","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.swhchs.org\/index.php\/history\/","title":{"rendered":"History"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>&#8220;Politics is downstream from culture.&#8221; Andrew Breitbart<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.swhchs.org\">swhchs.org<\/a> is dedicated to preserve the southwestern cultural landscape, by educating and influencing the next generation, preserving monuments, teaching history, demonstrating real science, encouraging good art, collecting rocks, and capturing and retelling good fact-based true stories.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>To submit a story to\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/swhchs.org\/\">swhchs.org<\/a>\u00a0go to<\/strong>\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/swhchs.org\/index.php\/story-submission\/\">http:\/\/swhchs.org\/index.php\/story-submission\/<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Sons of Utah Pioneers (SUP) <\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Cedar City Chapter<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>SUP was founded in 1933. The first issue of&nbsp;<strong>The Pioneer Magazine<\/strong>&nbsp;by&nbsp;<strong>Sons of Utah Pioneers<\/strong>&nbsp;(<strong>SUP<\/strong>) was in <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.org\/details\/SUPPM19361\/mode\/2up\">June of 1936<\/a>. The settlement of Iron County is nicely presented in <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.org\/details\/SUPPM20171\">Volume 64 Number 1 in March of 2017<\/a>. These magazines are among the best historical accounts of the west.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In 2021,&nbsp;<strong>SUP<\/strong>\u2018s Cedar City Chapter Board unanimously voted interest in the&nbsp;<strong>Southwestern Heritage Center<\/strong>&nbsp;plans. There are 110 members of the&nbsp;<strong>Cedar City SUP<\/strong>&nbsp;Chapter. It is anticipated the&nbsp;<strong>Cedar City Chapter of SUP<\/strong>&nbsp;will take the lead in managing the&nbsp;<strong>Southwestern Heritage Center<\/strong>.&nbsp;<strong>SUP<\/strong>&nbsp;regularly sponsors historical treks, and visitors to the&nbsp;<strong>Heritage Center<\/strong>&nbsp;will have an opportunity to participate in these treks, as well as in social activities and fireside discussions for&nbsp;<strong>Cedar City SUP Chapter<\/strong>&nbsp;members.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>The Cedar City Chapter Vision Statement&nbsp;is: <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cExtending the Utah Pioneer Heritage into the Present and the Future.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>The Cedar City Chapter Mission Statement is:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe strive to keep the Utah pioneer legacy alive by:<br>1. Remembering and preserving our history;<br>2. Inviting men of all heritages to join with us in working to create better communities;<br>3. Following our ancestor\u2019s example of trail building and service; and<br>4. Uniting people with their own ancestral heritages\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>SWHC provides an opportunity to work on each part of this Mission Statement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Daughters of the Utah Pioneers (DUP)<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Iron County Camps<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Daughters of Utah Pioneers (\u201cDUP\u201d) was organized April 11, 1901 (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.dupinternational.org\/dyn_page.php?pageID=43\">http:\/\/www.dupinternational.org\/dyn_page.php?pageID=43<\/a>). DUP has an excellent <a href=\"https:\/\/cedarcitydupmuseum.wixsite.com\/cedarcitydupmuseum\">Museum in Cedar City, Utah<\/a>. They have arranged for docents to be at their museum weekdays for many years, and will help the&nbsp;<strong>Southwestern Heritage Center<\/strong>&nbsp;learn how to optimally provide service opportunities. However, the facility is only large enough to show a small percentage of donated historical items. DUP is very interested in having a satellite museum, synergistic with their existing and other museums in Iron County, and a place to store artifacts they have already collected and do not have a place to display.
